Here is a number worth pausing on: one in four adults over 65 falls each year. The majority of those falls happen at home,and the majority of those happen in the bathroom. And yet when our culture designs for bathroom safety, it almost alwaysarrives at the same answer, one that looks nothing like a home.Clinical hardware. Institutional fixtures. Modifications that signal need rather than care. We think this is a design failure,not an inevitability. So we built a service to correct it: a design-driven bathroom planning practice that integrates safety and beauty, delivered contractor-ready.
Safety modifications should be invisible.
Say the words “aging in place” to most people and a particular image comes to mind. Grab bars in hospital chrome. Plastic bath seats. A general visual apology for what the body sometimes needs. We would like to offer a different picture.
A walk-in shower with a seamless threshold and a hand-held wand on a sleek rail. A vanity at a height that actually makes sense. Flooring with grip built into its texture, not bolted on after the fact. Lighting that renders color accurately, because vision changes with age and your bathroom should not fight
you back.
None of this looks like an accommodation. All of it is.That is the standard for every aging-in-place bathroom we design: every safety consideration, expressed through materials, proportions, and finishes that feel deliberate. That feel like home. That feel, frankly, better than what was there before.

The two halves of this work usually live in different professions. Certified Aging-in-Place Specialists understand fall risk, reach zones, transfer clearances, and lighting for changing vision, but most are builders, not designers. Designers understand proportion, material, and atmosphere, but most have never been trained in the safety factors that determine whether a bathroom actually protects the person using it.
We hold both. Our CAPS certification, issued through the National Association of Home Builders, covers the critical safety factors most bathroom designers and ontractors miss, from slip resistance and reach zones to lighting quality and mobility flow. Our design training runs from the Yale School of Architecture through years of hospitality work on hotels, restaurants, and spas, spaces built around comfort, dignity, and the feeling of being genuinely well taken care of. The result is bathroom planned with evidencebased rigor and finished with the sensibility of a boutique hotel
Why plan before you build.
Most aging-in-place renovations fail in the gap between intention and execution. A contractor installs hardware where the studs happen to be rather than where the body actually needs it. A layout gets rebuilt around the existing plumbing instead of around how a person moves through their morning.Money gets spent twice, first on the renovation and then on correcting it.
Planning closes that gap. Our process moves from consultation to site survey to audit, and for Tier 2 clients, through design development to contractor handoff, including a 45-minute Q&A with your builder to prevent miscommunication and errors. Clear documentation removes guesswork, avoids costly layout mistakes, and means the renovation is done once, correctly,beautifully.
There is also a quieter argument for starting early. A bathroom designed for the next chapter of life works just as well in this one. The best time to plan it is before it is needed, when the decision is about design rather than urgency.

Audit and Reconfiguration — A certified safety assessment and expert layout plan. We conduct an in-home site survey and digital scan, model your existing bathroom in plan and 3D, assess the current layout against safety and usability criteria, and propose an optimized alternative with side-byside annotated diagrams, a lighting strategy, finish guidelines, a fixture and install checklist, and vendor recommendations. It ends with a contractor walk-through and handoff. Comprehensive Design Package — Everything in the audit, plus full design development: aesthetic alignment, high-resolution renderings, complete fixture and product specifications, finish and material strategy, and fully dimensioned, contractor-ready plans, elevations, and spec documentation.
